Treatment Approach

At Bradford Counselling Service, we believe in empowering the clients as the experts of their own lives and use narrative therapy as an important tool in this process. We examine the client’s history, strengths, and accomplishments in relation to the problem they are currently facing. Our approach views the problem as separate from the client and believes they have the skills and competencies to help them change their relationship with that problem.

Our job is to collaborate with clients while they explore new and more meaningful ways of thinking and behaving. By asking the right questions, we help our clients find the answers they’re seeking.

Together, we come up with a preferred outcome in which the client realizes his or her full potential to move forward, cope with the issue at hand, and live a productive, fulfilling life.

Fees

Our services are not covered by OHIP. If you are employed and receive medical or health benefits at work, you may be covered for counselling. Many employee assistance programs provide funding for a certain number of counselling sessions. For more information, please refer to your company insurance plan or employee assistance plan.

If you are paying for counselling with your own funds, your sessions with Bradford Counselling Service can be claimed on your income tax as a medical expense. Since September 26, 2012, counselling provided by a registered social worker (RSW) has been a claimable medical tax deduction. For more information, please refer to the Canada Revenue Agency website’s authorized medical practitioners for the purposes of claiming medical expenses.

Bradford Counselling Service requires 24 hours notice in the event of a cancellation. A $50 cancellation fee may be applied if the client does not provide notification in advance.
